A stop smoking aid is any type of product created to help a person give up the habit of using cigarettes. It has two major types: the nicotine-based and the herbal products.
First, the most commonly recognized type of stop smoking aids is a line of products used in nicotine replacement therapy or NRT. NRT products provide the user a regulated amount of nicotine that enables him to cope with physical withdrawal symptoms. As a result, he becomes more capable of handling the emotional aspect involved in quitting the habit without having to worry about the discomforts caused by nicotine withdrawal. These products include patches, gum, inhalers, and lozenges. Nicotine patches, for example, are attached to clean and dry skin to provide a dose of the said substance to minimize withdrawal effects.
Second, aside from nicotine-based products, an individual can also choose stop smoking aids that contain natural ingredients. These herbal products consist of plant extracts and essential oils. Similar to the previously mentioned type of smoking aid, these herbal products come in gum, inhaler, and lozenge forms. Rather than releasing small amounts of nicotine into the body, these natural aids have a different approach in helping an individual manage the effects of quitting. For instance, herbal inhalers provide soothing aroma that calms the nerves whenever a person craves nicotine.
Lastly, an individual should remember that the stop smoking aids stated above can do little or no help if he does not have the determination and will to give up the habit. They are tools that are very useful, but his failure or success depends entirely on himself. Once he has the said willpower, any product will work well for him.
