Stop Smoking Methods

Stop smoking methods can be divided into two major forms: the abrupt way and the gradual approach. Depending on the condition of your habit, you can select from the two said methods to help you deal with the quitting process.

First, if you have just acquired the habit for a number of months but are planning to quit it, the cold turkey method can be an effective solution for you. Although its origin is not clearly known, this is the universal term used to describe the process wherein one abruptly stops smoking. Basically, this involves the act of refraining from using cigarettes without preparation or forethought and without the gradual reduction of smokes per day. For example, if you smoke around 15 cigarette sticks, quitting cold turkey entails that you have to give up the entire batch. Some people argue that this method can cause a shock to the system, while others can attest its effectiveness.

Second, another form of stop smoking method is done by gradually lessening the quantity of cigarettes which you will smoke per day. This approach is suitable for you if you have had the habit for several years. For instance, if you normally smoke 20 sticks daily, you can start by reducing three cigarettes from your routine. After some days, you can lessen again the number of smokes until you are down to less than five per day. By this time, you may find it considerably easier to drop your habit. Aside from frequent and regulated deduction of cigarette use, you can also extend the length of time between smokes. This means that if you are accustomed to having a cigarette every 60 minutes, try to take your next smoke after 2 or 3 hours. This will also lessen the amount of cigarette use per day.
